Before the ZFKar 31/42; there was...???

It surprises me that the first Swiss sniper rifle to appear on the scene was the ZFKar 31/42. Surely there must have been at least a few prototypes put together following WW1, but I've never seen a photo of one, or read about ANY early prototypes.

Germany, USA and England had a plentiful supply of sniper rifles at that time, and I know that all three countries were experimenting with scoped rifles well before that, for example the Davidson scope on the 577/450 Martini-Henry rifle in the 1860's, and of course the scoped sharpshooter rifles of the US Civil War.

Perhaps the Swiss Army believed that their shooter's eyes were sharp enough at any distance to hit a target without the need of a telescope mounted on a rifle?

Any comments...?
